Don't ever go
to the
wide road
There are cafes
and book stores
and clothing shops decorated in elaborate
fan fare
and illuminated
with artificial light
If you take your money to
the wide road
you'll have fun
you'll have fun
you'll have to tell yourself
"Well, I really shouldn't
but
I can spend a little money here and there,
what will it
hurt?"
But after you've spent it
after all the sales clerks
and salesmen
and advertisers
and peers
and store owners
have told you that it's
not only ok
to
spend
your money
on all they have to offer
but that it will make you
happy
you'll eventually feel, in desire,
a longing
a wondering
if you bought the right thing
and then you decide
you'll feel
better
if you go back, and spend
more money
maybe then you'll get
what
satisfies
you
Viscous Cycle:
The Wide Road Is A Cycle
a never ending
freeway
with lots of cars
and familiar
melodramatic
faces
smog-pretend you don't see it-
with lots of on ramps,
but only one off ramp
and it's located in the most glamorous part of town
but on the other side of town
is the narrow road
it isn't traveled often
sometimes a
tuft
of grass grows tall right in the middle
of its gravel and dust
it winds
and curves
unimaginable
but never goes anywhere but
forward
It boasts only the basics
Hometown cooking
a small hotel
convenience store ~ cheapest gas in town ~
The buildings aren't speckled with lights and glitter
but they are just as,
maybe more,
beautiful
emerald Ivy climbs high to every roof
raising its hands in praise to the sky
morning glories, dot the clean cut yards
white washed brick gives
a clear reflection
the doors stand open
all day long
and the aroma of warm apple pies,
sunflowers,
vanilla,
and baby powder
dance on the hem of
the constant breeze.
Here,
there's not many
desired
items on stock
layaway is a foreign word
only necessities can be found
on the narrow road
here
the people
are into money
management
They invest wisely
and after
they make their purchases
they feel confident and
not happy,
but joyous,
because the simplicity of
the narrow road
has taught them to
appreciate
the purchases that are fundamental to life
to love
to faith
they consult their consumer reports, their handbook, the word
before they invest their cash
and furthermore
they consult the mayor
in all decisions
he's never steered them wrong.
The narrow road is joyous.
Fulfilled.

"Delight in me, and I will give you the desires of your heart."
